NATO YPP Assessment: Games, Interview & How to Prepare (2026)

The NATO Young Professionals Programme (YPP) first round is a set of cognitive games, a Portrait-style work preference task and a short recorded video interview about your motivation.

What to expect

Candidates report a sequence of short, timed cognitive games: quick mental maths (Numerosity), recalling sequences of numbers or letters that later run backwards (Digit Span), remembering an order then summing values (Disco Numbers), and spotting matching rotated/spinning grids (Shape Dance). The reported flow also includes Portrait, a visual work-style preference task with no objectively correct answer. After the games there is a brief recorded interview where you talk about your motivation for a few minutes. The exact line-up can vary by cycle, so follow your official invitation.

How to prepare

For the recorded interview, prepare two or three concise, structured reasons for why NATO and why this role, and rehearse out loud so the on-camera, no-retry format feels less awkward.
